"Women Should Stop Getting Educations" 🫠 & the Sneex Debate šŸ‘

Hi! It's your BFF in biz exploring women’s experiences in entrepreneurship, venture capital, personal finance, wealth & motherhood.

Hey! It’s Doone, your hype girl in biz… So my inbox was in overdrive and full of love last week—the response to the motherhood feature was overwhelming (in a positive way) and I feel so grateful and valued and seen. Thank you to everyone that reached out. It’s loud and clear — we’re on the right track and we šŸ‘ are šŸ‘ excited šŸ‘. My inbox is always open, drop in anytime and share your stories or insights with me, I love to chat. On the cards for today šŸ‘‡

  • šŸ’– ā€œWomen Should Stop Getting Educationsā€ UM WTF??

  • šŸ’– A quick framework on how to stop apologizing

ā€œWomen Should Stop Getting Educationsā€

TLDR: Debunking outdated nonsense I see on the internet.

Are we going backwards here or has this harmful sentiment online always been there and it’s just becoming more mainstream courtesy of guys like Tate? Either way—it’s bloody terrifying. And dangerous.

ā€œWe should stop normalizing women getting an education.ā€
Yet the research shows:

  • Educated women increase a country's GDP by 0.37% per additional year (for perspective this = $99.5B)

  • Women with college degrees have a 20% lower divorce risk

  • Educated women are 80% more financially secure in retirement and less likely to face poverty

ā€œEducation is literally ruining our sisters.ā€
Yet the research shows:

  • Education reduces poverty risk by 9.5% for women

  • Children of educated mothers have a 50% higher survival rate

  • Dual-income households with equal financial contribution are 34% less likely to divorce

  • Financial independence in both partners leads to a 20% increase in relationship satisfaction

ā€œMost of them aren’t marriage material.ā€
Yet the research shows:

  • College-educated women have a 78% chance of staying married for 20 years, vs 40% for those with a high school diploma

ā€œMost of them are becoming the men they want to marry.ā€

Um, yes this is accurate. We raised our standards.

ā€œThey go and study to become doctors or lawyers, and end up 30, 35, unmarried and barren.ā€
Yet the research shows:

  • The average age for college-educated women to get married is around 28, and 25 for women without a college degree

  • And a higher percentage of college-educated women marry by age 40 (75%) compared to those without a degree (60%)

  • Fertility rates for women in their 30s have increased as a result of an improved understanding of women’s health, advancements in technology and better access to healthcare—the birth rate for women aged 30-34 actually surpassed women aged 25-29 in 2016 USA

It’s literally proven and backed by data that we —as educated, working women— strengthen marriages and boost the economy. The choice of education, career, or being a homemaker should be OURS—not anyone else’s. It’s so baffling to me that I don’t really understand, and I’m genuinely curious how this narrative will shift moving forward.

How do you see this sentiment changing? (I’m actually asking)
