Three 🔑 Insights From This Week’s Episodes on the Female Startup Club Podcast

Directly from the women building the world’s most exciting businesses in the e-commerce and CPG space

1. The Power of Consistency 🚣

EP163: It was cool to mix things up a little and chat with an expert from the social media space. You might have heard of Gwen Lane, the seven-figure entrepreneur and business coach who helps impact-driven content creators grow their influence and revenue.

“If you’re not shooting content consistently, not thinking of ideas consistently, and you're not planning consistently, it’s going to be really hard.”

Consistency. It’s not as easy as it sounds. Need some practical tips to get there?

  • Post every day: this is your chance to really attract those people. Show up every day. You don’t know who you’re reaching. Plus: all this organic posting really supports the initial buying decision that customers make!

  • Your vision: having your big vision in mind can be extremely motivating and inspiring. Put it somewhere where you can see it. It’ll help you stay on track.

  • Plan your content ahead of time: try to get ahead as much as possible, and use that daily time to engage rather than thinking, ‘what do I post today?.

  • Get it down on paper: having things in our minds can feel impossible and overwhelming. Write everything out. Map it out.

  • Get clear on your goals: is it to drive sales? Traffic? Get leads? Brand awareness? Goal setting = staying on track. Meet Gwen

2. Get Chatting 💬

EP164: In SubSafe’s founding story, Desiree Haller kept coming back to the importance of community and communication, especially when, like her, you are starting out in a new industry. It’s great to get lots of opinions before making a decision. Should I found this company? Ask. What should I price my product? Ask. It takes a village to found a business, let it :)

“Reach out to everyone and anyone.”

Strangers: ask complete strangers what they think. You have to seek out some unbiased opinions. Talking to friends and family is great, but “everyone is going to tell you your baby is cute.”

Gwen also made a noteworthy point on this:

“Talking to people stops it feeling like this giant thing. It’s scary when an idea stays in your head.”

3. What works for you? 🧰

The magnitude of entrepreneurial information and advice out there can be super overwhelming and might lead us to forget what an intensely personal experience every journey is. Something that works for one founder may have the opposite effect for another. The key? Find out what works for you. Trial and error.

EP165: Toyin Omisore had a crash course in self-discovery, launching her activewear business Roam Loud whilst working her 9-5 and investing all the money she could directly into the brand.

“There are a lot of avenues to choose from, what works for you?”

Here’s a couple of pointers to help you find and maintain your path:

  1. Take care of yourself. It makes you a better founder. It’s super helpful to disconnect from the business for an hour or two. Nurture, refuel and keep going.

  2. Stimulate your mind creatively. Go for a walk, daydream, and surround yourself with positive sources of inspiration.

  3. Accept failure. It doesn’t always work out. And that’s okay. You will figure it out.

  4. Find your why. That bit is what makes you emotional about it and what makes it personal, is what helps you get through when it's rough.

  5. Do your own research. Get deep into those google pages instead of just exploring the first. Do your own research, try what resonates with you. If it works or doesn’t, it’ll serve you well.
