A quick exercise on focus and delegation ๐Ÿค

Hi! It's your BFF in biz dropping into your inbox with your weekly source of inspiration & information on all things around women in business rn.

Hey! Itโ€™s Doone, your hype girl in business. This one goes out to all of us that have been putting that important thing off. Let's kick things off by eating the metaphorical frog! We all have that thing we've been needing help with, and today is the day you are going to ask for it. Connect with someone that can help you out. Ask that question, and don't be shy, because when you bring down the ego is when the space for real connection is created (truth!).

Letโ€™s get into it ๐Ÿ‘‡

Oh, hey there Q2 ๐Ÿ‘‹ (a quick exercise on focus and delegation)

By the time you read this Q2 has well and truly snuck upon us. BUT, it is not too late to refresh your mind and get re-focused on reaching those big annual goals.

It can be hard to figure out what to focus your energy on. Brain. Clutter. So. Many. Things. We once had our resident business and marketing coach Kelsey Reidl come into Majic to step us through an exercise that is so super useful, and it's really relevant when it comes to goal-setting every quarter. The ultimate point here is to write down every single goal, big or small, that is or has been on your mind at some point these past 3 months. You then trim that list right down, so you are laser-focused on those big Q2 goals. Simples! Let's get straight into it.

STEP 1: Your Q2 Goals ๐Ÿฅ…

This will be a long list. Spend some time thinking about what all your goals are for the next year (and I mean REALLY think about it). This list is going to be a lot, itโ€™ll be overwhelming, and itโ€™ll lead us to the next step.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Prioritize ๐Ÿ…Then, start to consider what your priorities are - and end up circling just two or three. Keep it super clear. Really clear goals to dedicate Q2's laser focus to so you can actually achieve them.

  • Ask yourself: where am I in a good position to excel here? ๐Ÿค”

STEP 2: Break It Down ๐Ÿ“

Now, start working on a second list. This took me a while longer. You need to sit and think about every little thing youโ€™re doing on a daily basis. A line-by-line breakdown of every single thing you dedicate your precious time towards each day.

  • Ask yourself: what are all of the tasks youโ€™re doing over the week in the course of your business? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ‘‰ Split It Up ๐Ÿ––

This list needs to be split up into two different columns. The what you should be doing list & what you should not be doing list. Essentially, what you can outsource to someone else, or cut altogether.

  • Ask yourself with each item: does this align with my top goals? ๐Ÿค”

STEP 3: Park It? ๐Ÿš˜

Make a third list. Take your 'should-not-be-doing' list and make a note if this is still important enough to outsource, or whether you should park it completely for now. Over time you become better at doing that. The point is to cut down your list as much as possible to ensure youโ€™re focusing on the things that are most in line with your goals.

Eventually, youโ€™ll have two really clear lists of the things that you should be doing to drive your business forward. And a list of things that you shouldnโ€™t be doing because theyโ€™re not serving you right now. Itโ€™s not black and white, but itโ€™s a good way to figure out what you should be focusing on and clear that brain clutter. Nowโ€ฆ Get goal-setting! And just one last thing, stick around for step 4...

STEP 4: Don't Get Complacent โš ๏ธ

You've done all the hard work, now let's make sure you stay on track to making this year the year you very much deserve it to be. One useful way to make sure you don't fall back into old patterns is to get SMART about your Q2 goals. Take your two or three goals and use THIS smart system to give yourself the structure & support you need to keep things moving forward. Also make sure to:

  • Set milestones for each goal to help stay on track: you might set a milestone to achieve 33% of your goal by the end of this month

  • Review your progress regularly and make any necessary adjustments to your plan to ensure you are on track to achieve your goals
