🔑 Insights From This Week’s Episodes on the Female Startup Club Podcast

Directly from the women building the world’s most exciting businesses in the e-commerce and CPG space.

1. Don’t be shy 🦚

EP278: During this episode I chat with Aimee Yang, the founder of one of the most innovative products in the food industry right now, with Better Brand.

Better Brand brought their first product, The Better Bagel, out into the world in just 4(!!!) months. In four months, they turned the carb heavy bagel into the equivalent of two banana slides. And they started changing the world.

If you believe in the product, the mission and the story of the company, you should get the product out into the market as fast as you can. Start driving impact. Start telling your story. Take the consumer on the journey with you.

  • It’s the only way to really build a truly efficient business

  • You need that real-time data to inform you of your decisions

  • Getting that feedback loop early on is so valuable

If it’s good enough to get in front of the consumer to illustrate what you do, just get it out there. Keep growing, testing, and iterating further down the line.

“And just stay really focused. And believe in the vision and the impact that you can have.”

2. The email that generated $150,000 💌

EP280: We’re learning from the co-founder (Jessica Warch) of the London based modern fine jewellery brand that Meghan Markle loves - Kimai.

👉 If you thought cold emailing was outdated, it might be time to change your mind. Jess talks us through a mind-blowing story that’s reminded me just how important it is to try your luck. No matter how big the goal.

“I am a strong believer in cold emails. I cold email everyone. Even investors. Looking online, figuring emails, guessing emails or finding them.”

The Kimai founders were on the hunt for the perfect match for their brand, and landed on Meghan Markle. She was the dream. But how do you reach royalty?

“Looking into her close network to figure out how can we get in touch with her and how can we tell her our story. Through a few cold emails we got her to wear our products a few months after launch.”

Their strategy was all around looking at her close friends that might be more accessible that she is. With the help of LinkedIn, Facebook and guessing emails, the girls gave themselves the chance at a stage on which to tell their story. Why they’re doing what they’re doing. And Meghan loved it. 💗

They ended up selling to Meghan through cold emailing a friend, and the rest is history. In the 2-3 weeks after she wore the earrings they made $150,000 without any marketing.

They then took advantage of that situation to go and fundraise with the advice: Take advantage of the situation because you never know what happens afterwards. A $1.2M seed funding round later, we can confidently say this one has a happy ending. ✨

FSC Mini-Series from the Founder ❤️

In this new mini-series within the FSC podcast, you’ll hear directly from me, your Host & Hype Girl about all the goings-on with the Female Startup Club. This week we’re going through 4 useful accounts I’m obsessed with on TikTok.

Vivian shares these quick digestible financial literacy videos along with tax tips and budgeting stuff. I really love her series around side hustle ideas - she shared things I’ve literally never heard of before. SO cleverly done.

An account all about investing directly targeted towards women and minorities. Simran also has a top ranking podcast about investing that’s well worth a listen. So many women use their advice to get into investing. Love this energy.

I think I’ve mentioned Andrea before, but she needs another mention. An expert in the TikTok creator space, she shares a lot of tips and ideas around marketing for small biz owners and generally gives you the good vibes needed on TT.

4. I am Dulma 🎓

The last one looped into my TikTok addition. She’s worked at a bunch of startups, bootstrapped her own ecommerce brands and is now sharing insights into the world of ecommerce, news and opinion pieces that we love to see.

Happy watching! ❤️

Biz Wins & Failz 🎢

Straight from Hype Club.

How is the entrepreneurial rollercoaster going for our Hype Clubbers this week? Larissa Hildebrandt (Founder of pillow brand Henrie) shares a high:

“We've had ups and downs since the launch, but we just had a customer repurchase after 4 days and that was super validating! Pillows aren’t the kind of thing you repurchase often so it was nice to see they liked it enough to (most likely) buy one for someone else.”

Customer retention is one of the most important KPIs for your biz and your products. Let’s call it the loyalty indicator. Congrats to Larissa on the win! 👏

*We’ll be opening our doors to Hype Club again soon, so if you’re looking forward to joining the next round of intakes keep your eyes peeled for our memo!
