Dreaming of Starting a Newsletter?

When I was just starting the 💜 Female Startup Club newsletter 💜, I was overwhelmed with what tools to use or how to grow. But beehiiv made it all really easy. It was founded by some of the earliest employees of the Morning Brew, and they know what it takes to grow a newsletter from zero to millions.

The all-in-one publishing suite comes with built-in growth tools, customization, and best-in-class analytics that actually shift the needle - all in an easy-to-use interface that makes it easy for anyone to simply get started.

If you’ve considered starting a newsletter, there’s no better place to get started and no better time than now.

Let’s talk money: Ami’s exact equity crowdfunding marketing breakdown 💸

It’s part three of our mini-series and Ami Bateman takes us through the marketing spend of her equity crowdfunding campaign for Pleasant State, and this episode is JUICY.

Setting the scene: the campaign itself was 6 weeks in total (3 for expression of interest, and a 3-week offer period). But realistically it all started much earlier with a clear plan on how to warm up the community and get them excited (essentially 6 months before launch). Let’s get straight into it:

In total, they raised… AU$1,064,914!!! (about 14% of which went to running it)

There is a big financial investment going into a campaign like this. In preparation, they did a small raise before jumping into the campaign, raising $300K in safe notes. She hopes to have demonstrated that this is a very big undertaking, but a super rewarding one. & to keep in mind:

  1. Start with why you’re doing this; ensure you have a purpose and intent that’s really ethical and that will drive you forward

  2. Be really clear about your outgoing costs upfront (& make sure others provide their fees in the same way)

  3. Crowdfunding is a community effort: spend that time nurturing and rallying your community and only raise when that’s guaranteed

If you’re thinking of raising, you’re interested in crowdfunding, or you’re just a curious soul; I highly recommend listening to this episode to tell the full low-down. There is zero gatekeeping here, and I’m here for it. 👇👇👇

Just Ask Doone: dealing with rejection as a founder

SPOILER ALERT: being an entrepreneur is a crash course on the learning curve of rejection. I know, life’s tough. It's tough when others don't see your vision, but rejection is part of the game. Embrace it, and you'll build resilience, perseverance, and willpower – which just might get you through anything.

  • Change your mindset about rejection 🧠 Be okay with it, or dare I say, be happy about it. In the business world, rejection is a given.

  • Turn rejection into a game 🎲 Set a daily goal of collecting 100 nos. Use it as fuel to keep going. With time, you'll see more yeses, and handling rejection will get easier.

  • Implement micro habits to calm your mind 🍃 Step outside, do deep breathing exercises, or take a cold-blast shower to reset your mood. Turn rejection into a trigger for positive micro-moments.

  • When you face a no, use it as an opportunity to learn 📚 Ask for honest feedback, and uncover hidden gems or roadblocks. A no today isn't a no forever.

& in the words of Sophia Amoruso: watch me, motherfucker!
