LIVE Equity Crowdfunding Results ($740K!!) & PR best practices 🧑🏫
Hi! It's Your BFF In Biz Dropping Into Your Inbox With Your Weekly Source Of Inspiration & Information On All Things Around Women In Business RN.
Hey! It’s Doone, your hype girl in business. Word on the street in New York is that Tuesday is now officially the new Friday. I think that makes Monday the new Thursday SO… What are we doing tonight?
(Personally, my sofa is looking particularly appealing 🤷♀️)
Let’s get straight into it 👇
An Update on Ami’s Pleasant State Equity Crowdfunding Results So Far ($740k raised!)🥇
Welcome back to our mini-series: where Pleasant State's co-founder Ami Bateman takes us on the journey of her Equity Crowdfunding Campaign (as it's happening in real-time). I'll take you through Ami’s journey in starting her clean cleaning brand right through to their just launched equity crowdfunding campaign so you get a front-row seat into the hows, the whats, the oops-moments and the ✨wins✨. (& you're encouraged to get involved yourself: check out how to become a shareholder)
It’s very rare that you get to chat with someone right in the thick of it. This conversation is beautifully “warts and all” as we chat to Ami for Pt.2 of this mini-series: one month into her crowdfunding campaign and feeling all the feels.
“It’s almost like every day we’ve got to go the next level, and I’ve had to dig really deep. You do things to get through, be really mindful about it. Be authentic, and honest.”
With a front-row seat to the action, in this episode, we chat through all the things that have been shifting the needle: what really had people parting with their money to support this crowdfunding campaign?
$15,000 investment into PR ✨ with an expert from the crowdfunding space, landing features with Channel 7 & Forbes Magazine
$55,000 investment into paid media (with another $15,000 reserved) 💸 encouraging massive traffic with a current ROI of 6.5
Lots of podcasts, lots of events 🎙️💃 shouting loudly from the rooftops on all channels possible
Engaging Ami’s LinkedIn community 💙 you never know who might come out of the woodwork
Hitting the phone ☎️ contacting everrrryone who at one point said they were going to invest, chatting on the phone, and connecting with them directly to make sure that’s still their intention (this one is KEY!) but also talking through any lingering questions they might have
We’ll soon be back in your ears with Pt.3 & full reflection on the campaign 💫
Performance PR: How to Get Press without Hiring an Agency 🧑🏫
PR has been a friend and a foe to our Majic Community members forever. One thing we can rely on: it’s remained a hot topic. Let’s first address the elephant in the room when it comes to PR, the ROI can basically suck. It doesn’t compare to your IG or FB ads. We all love a good return on investment, but PR is a sly fox. It’s key to remember: you invest in PR because you’re planting the seeds of awareness for your brand. You’re playing the long game. In this love-hate relationship, PR might not immediately give you what you want, but it will have your back down the line. Not so bad, right?
Now the real trouble with PR is that you can spend thousands on a monthly retainer with an agency and get no results, literally zero. Or you can waste a lottttt of time outreaching to editors and get no where. But Linkby is a platform that lets you choose the publisher you want (think: Refinery29, Forbes, Daily Mail etc), add in your details, set a budget and you only pay if the article gets published. You’re only spending on guaranteed results. Serious win.
We were lucky enough to have Silvia Avramut (Marketing Director at The Dairy, keen PR expert, and beloved Majic member) pop by this week to act as our PR shrink, break down the best practices, and show us how to DIY with this handy little tool called Linkby.
Here’s the full low-down:
1/ On your marks! 🧍♀️ The face of your business, your website is the place where all the magic happens. Ensure it's user-friendly, visually appealing, and provides all the necessary information. Make it easy for potential customers to find what they're looking for and showcase your products - they’re worth it.
2/ Welcome series ready! 🚶♀️ Set up a welcome series for your email marketing. This is your smooth-talking charmer who is going to nurture your customers with a delightful sequence of emails, so that “all that traffic you’re driving is nurturing those potential customers even if they’re not ready to buy.”
3/ GO! (Linkby!) 🏃♀️ Time to spill the tea on this secret little weapon called Linkby. The ultimate wing person for your PR game, this tool turns content into sales and connects high-quality content creators with premium advertisers with simple cost-per-click campaigns (essentially allowing you to run your own PR campaigns). PR is generally one of those things that have been difficult to measure, and this makes it just that little bit more transparent and easier (whilst putting a lot of the power back into your own hands).
PR is all about telling your unique story, creating a buzz, and building credibility. Embrace these best practices, but also stay open to adapting and exploring new strategies to stay ahead of the race.
