How Sundae Cracked the Pre-Launch Retail Code 🛍️

When Lizzie had the idea for Sundae Body, she knew from the start that her products needed to be on retail shelves. Why? Because body washes weren’t typically bought online – people picked them up during their grocery runs. So, Lizzie used the following playbook to get her shower foam on retail shelves:

1. Networking is Everything 🕸️ Lizzie leveraged her network. She asked friends & connections for introductions, and a friend of a friend knew a distributor in the spaceb- leading to a crucial meeting that put Sundae Body in front of major retailers like Woolworths and Priceline. It took some convincing to get the meeting and to get them onboard, but in the end they loved the vision and agreed to work with her. The lesson here? Don’t be afraid to ask around – and don’t take no for an answer. It’s all int he follow ups!

2. The Power of a Strong Pitch ✊ When it came time to pitch, Lizzie prepared a 27-slide presentation, with nearly half dedicated to her ‘why.’ This storytelling approach was a game-changer. Retailers were captivated by the mission and vision. She painted a vision of absolutely everything and made sure they understood the opportunity that was in front of them, that would lead to more revenue from a new consumer base. It’s a great reminder that your compelling story can be your best pitch tool.

3. Marketing Plan Magic ✨ Retailers want to know how you’ll drive customers to their stores. They want to know how you’re going to drive significant revenue and sales. Lizzie’s team laid out a robust GTM strategy aimed at attracting Gen Z consumers: think product sampling, giveaways, and a solid social media buzz campaign. This showed retailers exactly how they planned to build and nurture a community around their brand, and what she would be investing to make sure this would be a win win for both of them.

Pro tip: after securing retail accounts, Lizzie savvily negotiated payment terms to align with the (also negotiated) manufacturer’s payment schedule - allowing them to fund the order without any upfront capital. Boom!

Lizzie’s journey with Sundae Body is badass and shows the power of preparation, storytelling, and strategic thinking. If you’re gearing up for your own retail launch it’s time to take a page from Lizzie’s book.
