1. Wtf Instagram 🤷‍♀️

Instagram is having a moment. We know it. You know it. The Kardashians know it. In the words of Claire, who built her beautiful world through the app:

"Everything you've been doing for the last 10 years is no longer working and serving."

Ouch. We feel you, girl. In the spirit of not keeping all of her eggs in one basket, Claire has been quick to figure out a new strategy. It's a fickle thing to be working with just the one effective marketing channel. Here's her shiny new breakdown:

  1. TikTokTikTokTikTok: are we getting predictable? You need a strategy on TikTok in 2022 or you've lost. It's zero cost. Repurpose them into reels. Let's go!

  2. IRL Events: COVID is over people 🎉 Time to crawl out from behind our screens and get networking at some biz events, and spread the word.

  3. Distribution: scout potential distributor partners to stock your creations. Distribution is a pretty undervalued marketing and reach tool and might just be a fab way to have new eyes find you in this crowded world 🌈

2. The forgotten rules of raising ($2M in 5 weeks) 💸

EP395: Learning from Karen Danudjaja about how she bootstrapped her magical cafe latte brand Blume to $10M in sales, before raising $2M.

Having just gone through an incredibly intense (5 weeks 👀) and successful ($2M 🤑) fundraising campaign, I wanted to ask Karen about the key levers of growth that prepare you for such a raise and what she would advise other entrepreneurs in the same position. Two points firmly stand out:

  • HIRE, sooner rather than later

This may sound counterintuitive. Shouldn't we wait to hire until we know there's money coming in? The answer is a resounding no. Hire, and hire smartly. It's incredible what automation of a few roles such as sales and customer service can do to free up your time as a founder. Allow yourself to focus more time on strategy and development, especially in the lead-up to something as consequential as a raising round.

  • Take the investor lens 👓

You're the visionary. We know that. It's valuable, and that's what's got you here. But when it comes to raising, you need to be sure to frame your vision in a way that investors understand. Maybe take off the dreamer-cap for a hot second. Get into the granular stuff. The nuts and bolts. Get real with your numbers.
