A message from Bec 💭

"Founder of Winden, Bec, here. I met Miranda, the founder of Kiyani Botanics about six months ago through Majic, the private community for female entrepreneurs created by Female Startup Club (hi 👋). Over the past year, there have been so many moments where I was on the verge of giving up on Winden. Between lack of funding, everything going wrong with product development, and burnout, sometimes being an entrepreneur feels unbearable. In April 2022, I took a part-time role as Community Leader for Majic having no idea that it would result in multiple meaningful friendships, and give me the encouragement I needed to get our solid shampoo to launch.

Miranda was living in China when we first met over Zoom. Despite the great distance between us, we became fast friends through Majic's weekly virtual coffee chats. When we realized our products would be ready to launch around the same time we decided to collaborate on an event and that's how our self-care event was born (see the pics!). Working on this event together felt like having a cofounder. Miranda, thanks for doing this with me and providing the support I needed. I'm so proud to call you a friend."

1. What fills your cup?

Building something that you’re passionate about and that should exist in the world is going to be the most rewarding rollercoaster ride of your life. BUT... Expect and plan for those lows, even before they come (because they will).

Having your toolkit ready will allow you to really care for yourself and be your own best friend along this journey. Fill that toolkit with all the things that fuel and nourish you. From the time we’re little girls we’re socialized to give and support other people, but rarely are we encouraged to look inward and figure out those things that really nourish us. So take the time to learn, and take the time to prioritize those things.

2. Leave your ego at the door 🚪

Nowadays things are moving at such a fast pace. It's SO easy to just want to be in the game but remember: execution is really important. Really do your homework. It’s so important to have informed conversations. Teach yourself the basics, so you understand why something is working or not working. Have that base knowledge and foundational knowledge. Do your research, know your stats, and be certain that customers really want what you're bringing out into the world.

All this because you really don’t want to be so attached to an idea just because it’s yours. Just because you've developed an attachment to it. Take your ego out of the way and think about it as objectively as possible. Be as ego-less as possible.
