🤖 Charli XCX is Making Data Sexy & Bi-Monthly $5,000 Grant

Hi! It's your BFF in biz exploring women’s experiences in entrepreneurship, venture capital, personal finance, wealth & motherhood.

Hey! It’s Doone, your hype girl in biz… I’ve been exploring—publicly—my own vulnerabilities and mental overwhelm around how motherhood and a professional career fit together, and it’s sparked some interesting conversations about the role of a supportive partner—both what it looks like when it’s great—and how challenging it can be when that crucial support isn’t there.

I’d love to hear from you: How does your partner contribute to or alleviate the pressures you face in balancing your professional life and caregiving responsibilities? And what advice would you give to someone who’s struggling to communicate their need for more support?

We’ll be [anonymously] including these insights in an upcoming newsletter—just hit reply and drop directly into my inbox to share yours.

Today we’re covering 👇

  • ✨ How to use Skims data to shape your product strategy (buckle in!)

  • ✨ Tweets of gold; marrying a supportive partner vs not marrying

  • ✨ Bi-monthly $5,000 grants for early-stage black founders

  • ✨ Rent the Runway is hiring a remote role!

Bratty or Demure? Use Skims Data to Shape your Product Strategy 💚

Brat Girl Summer’s still really damn hot. Especially on Skims. We know Kim’s all about a great collab and this one does not disappoint: Charlie XCX x Skims. Oh we doooo love it.

And ofc, I couldn't resist jumping into Particl to see what we could learn from Skims data...

If you missed my recent videos breaking down Hailey Bieber’s Rhode phone lip case campaign (here) and (here), Particl is an AI-powered tool that lets e-commerce owners track competitor data and analyze market trends (🤯)

I use it to track data behind big brands—from new product launches, to what's selling fast and what's flopping, to see revenue and insights into pricing strategies, and how they compare to competitors.

When I dug into Skims' data, I went back to see how past campaigns performed to uncover some lessons. EG June 17th(ish), when Nicola Coughlan's campaign was announced:

The best-seller was the black maxi dress (and still is as of today), but the citrus colorway had crept into the top 50—which is a lot considering they have over 5,000+ products. But fast forward to August, the citrus version no longer makes the top 50. Confirming that we do still love a cheeky celeb collab and we will buy all the things! 🤑

Now, Charli XCX's campaign just dropped last week, so it's still early days. But I’m here for the Brat Girl Summer, and I'm keeping an eye on the Cotton Rib Style data! 👀

*If you’re interested in seeing a follow-up on how the sales data shapes up on this collab, hit reply to this email. If there’s enough interest—I’ll do another one!

But here's the thing—we don't all have budgets for Paris Hilton or Charli XCX. Obvs. So if I were an e-commerce brand owner, here's how I'd leverage this data:

1. Identify Market Opportunities & Spot Trends:

  • Use the Data to Spot Trends: Look for surges in specific product categories after Charli XCX's announcement. For example if bold-colored lingerie or activewear gets a boost, it could signal a rising trend.

  • Actionable Insight: Identify gaps in your product line and develop or promote items you’ve already got that tap into these emerging trends.

2. Understand Consumer Behavior:

  • Analyze Consumer Response: Check which products saw increased sales or visibility post-announcement. Were there changes in order values or new customer acquisitions?

  • Actionable Insight: Understand how different customer segments react to celebrity partnerships and tailor your campaigns to those most likely to engage.

3. Optimize Your Marketing Channels:

  • Evaluate Channel Performance: See which platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat etc) drove the best sentiment and engaged response. Did Charli XCX's followers engage more on a specific channel?

  • Actionable Insight: Double down and focus your marketing efforts where your audience is most active.

If you want to try Particl for free, you can for the next two weeks [here]! And use the code ‘DOONE’ for an additional 20% off incase you decide to stick around 🎉

Gold Tweets This Week 💗

1/ Walking a mile in someone else’s shoes is an especially good idea if you’re Sara Blakely a founder looking to raise: WWYD if you were an investor looking to maximise on their returns? 💸

2/ And a Tweet that made me look twice three times:

Ambition is a whole mood, right? When you’re driven there’s something to be said for your partner being right there, hyping you up, not holding you back. The truth is, being ambitious isn’t just about having goals—it’s a lifestyle. Late nights, early mornings, and sometimes, taking risks that not everyone will get.
