The Cyber Weekend Formula:
How Tess Nguyen preps for Black Friday wins) 👉

We just dropped some serious insider tips from Midnight Mischief founder Tess Nguyen and let me tell you, these are gold. If you're just getting started or feeling stressed about the biggest shopping weekend of the year, this one’s for you:

1. It’s October, Customer Acquisition Month 💅

Psst—this one’s big. Tess pushes hard for new customer acquisition in October (yep, right now) so they’re in the funnel before the madness of Cyber Weekend. The secret? Once they’ve bought once, they’re way more likely to come back for more when those holiday vibes kick in. Double down on ads, offers, and deals during October.

2. Forecast Like a Boss 👩‍💼

You’ve got revenue goals, right? 📊 Then work backwards from those. Forecast your sales, and set yourself up for success. Tess emphasises the importance of knowing your numbers so you’re not flying blind. If you’re aiming for $50K in sales, how many units, customers, and orders will get you there? Do the math.

3. Be Smart with Discounts (Less is More!!) 🤓

Here’s the tea—don’t over-discount. Sure, everyone’s chasing those 50% off deals, but Tess warns to avoid the trap of slashing prices just because everyone else is. Instead, she suggests offering a gift with purchase to sweeten the deal without eroding your margins. More value = higher cart value = happy customers.

4. Price It Right - Psychology Matters đź‘€

Tess recommends showing “prices as marked” rather than applying automatic discounts at checkout. It’s a psychological thing: Customers love seeing a deal upfront rather than waiting to see the savings in the cart. So make it crystal clear what they’re saving—and they’ll feel more inclined to hit that checkout button.

5. Nail Your Email & SMS Strategy đź’Ś

Repeat after us: hone your messaging early. You want your emails and SMS campaigns prepped at least one month in advance. That way, you can spot any issues and tweak your offers. Pro tip: If you’re not already SMS marketing, now’s the time to get on board (your customers are checking texts faster than emails).

6. Spam Away (But in a Smart Way) đź“Ł

Tess’s final gem? Don’t be shy about sending out more communications than usual during BFCM. It’s noisy out there, and while you might be worried about overloading your customers, just remember: every brand is doing it. Your messaging needs to cut through the chaos, so get comfortable with more frequent reminders.

Bottom line: you’ve got this, there is still time. Take a page out of Tess’s playbook, and let these tips guide you: whether it's stocking early, being strategic with your discounts, or nailing down your SMS strategy, a little prep will take you far(!!)
