The audacity đ + How to Get Stocked in Sephora
Hi! It's your BFF in biz dropping into your inbox with your weekly source of inspiration & information on all things in the e-commerce and CPG space.
Hey! Itâs Doone, your hype girl in business. This one goes out with a disclaimer that if youâre doubting yourself today, just remember that Billy McFarland is selling $499 tickets to Fyre Festival 2.0 (& people are buying them). Have the audacity to put yourself out there.
Today weâre covering đ

How to get stocked in Sephora đïž
1/ Cultivate that vision from the get-go âïž: I donât think itâs a coincidence that Sephora was always one of Desireeâs goal buyers, and she landed them as her first retailer. Yep, she knew how to sprinkle that touch of âšmanifestationâš from day one. From the very early stages know where you want to end up.
2/ Quality over Quick Wins đ: Retail giants like Sephora have high standards. They want quality, uniqueness, and innovation. These don't magically appear overnight. Desiree hustled for a solid six months before approaching retailers.
3/ Networking Know-How đ: Building relationships is vital when dealing with major retailers like Sephora. Attend trade shows, join online events, and connect with Sephora's decision-makers. Do your homework!
4/ Strike when the iron is hot đ„: When you've got something special, go for it. Reach out to that Sephora buyer on LinkedIn with your two-sentence pitch. Mention your niche, highlight your following, showcase your PR wins, and express your interest. Shine bright.
5/ Know your worth đ„: Sephora might be your big goal, but itâs easy to forget you also have something that they want and NEED. Indie brands are what consumers want right now. Play that to your advantage, and know you also need to be supported in that journey (you canât have the same playbook as Fenty; how is Sephora going to help you meet their order requirements?). Basically, know your worth girl.
No face-altering filter voodoo here.
Face filters have a bad rep (for a good reason), but our gal pal Shilpa is here to turn that on its head for all the right reasons. Sheâs developed an app that will showcase exactly what your make-up shopping list looks like IRL.
Theyâre calling it a makeup artist in your hands. Just roll over in the morning, swipe through looks to see them on your face, then click to buy the products you want. Designed for your real face, skin tone, skin type, and age. No face-altering filter voodoo. Just the real, beautiful you. This is ARtist by Glowreel.
10-Minute Thrive Exercise âš
Kaylinâs key piece of advice since selling 250,000 units of Jiggy Puzzles? Take a grassroots and community-driven approach. Itâs a long play, but itâs what makes your business authentic & (more importantly) defensible.
Your Monday Challenge: gift yourself 10 minutes, grab a cuppa, sit down, and think about what community really means to you. Answer the following:
What does community mean to me?
What does community look like in my day-to-day?
How am I communicating with my community?
How does my community differentiate my brand?
Who are my 1% hyper-engaged people?
What attracted them to the brand?
Where is the opportunity to have that work for me?
Youâd be surprised how much a simple exercise will clarify the essence of what your brand really is. Have a good think about it. Donât leave any opportunity for community-building on the table.
