Hi! It's your BFF in biz exploring women’s experiences in entrepreneurship, venture capital, personal finance, wealth & motherhood.
Hey! It’s Doone, your hype girl in biz… Last week I was hanging out with Aussie Gold Medal Olympian Ariarne Titmus and I thought you might like her insights on the connection between pro athletes & entrepreneurs….
✋ On discipline & goal setting: Set your goal, wholeheartedly commit to getting to the outcome & give your absolute best every single day - anything less than that is a waste of your time.
🤠 On choice vs sacrifice: you’re making a choice to get where you want to be in business & in life. The choices you make aren’t a sacrifice.
🧠 On decision-making: implement a system or process to back your decision making - you’ll always be on the receiving end of unsolicited advice from people who don’t get it or people who doubt your plan. Your process will keep you laser focused.
And there’s a bunch more 👉 right this way
Butttttt let’s jump into today’s newsy:

The Secret Sauce to Smarter Ad Spending 💸
Let’s talk about one of the biggest questions on every founder's mind: where the heck do I spend my ad budget? We all know the struggle of figuring out the most efficient way to grow your brand while getting the best bang for your buck. So, I had a chat with Fran Maier, the powerhouse behind Match.com and BabyQuip, to break it down and she gave us some major insights on navigating the customer journey.
First things first, your brand is all about trust. You’ve got to deliver on that promise at every touchpoint. People are quick to pick up on whether or not a brand is reliable, so, how do you make that happen? It starts with understanding your customer journey and meeting your audience where they naturally go to solve their problems:
1. Nail Down Your Value Prop 📌 Ask yourself: what’s the actual problem you’re solving? For Fran there was a gap in the market for baby gear rentals and parents were craving a solution. So before spending a penny, she made sure that BabyQuip was delivering on this (93 Net Promoter Score!) before moving on to spending on ads.
2. Invest in Google Ads Early On 💸 Think of Google as the first stop on the customer journey. When people have a problem, where do they go? Google. It’s usually the fastest, cheapest way to start driving traffic because you can finely target keywords and show up exactly where your customers are searching. Start out with finely targeted Google Ads to gain momentum and build the foundations to that SEO game.
3. Use PR and Social Media for Extra Visibility ✨ Yes, PR and influencer marketing are still part of the playbook. But here’s the thing: don’t just do it for the sake of doing it. Make sure it’s helping you build that trust with your brand. Use PR and social media to reinforce your position as a reliable solution. Collab with influencers who embody your values, and make your PR efforts about storytelling rather than just shouting about it.
4. Understand the Dance Between Supply and Demand 📈 This part is crucial. While you’re building demand with ads and PR, don’t forget about the supply side. You can have all the ad spend in the world, but if you’re not delivering an amazing customer experience, that money will go to waste.
5. Don’t Forget the Power of Word-of-Mouth 👯 Ultimately, your best marketing tool is a great customer experience: your customers will tell their friends. That’s how you get a referral engine up and running without spending a fortune.
Bottom Line: It’s all about mapping out that customer journey and investing your ad dollars in places that meet your customers where they are, solve their problems, and build long-term trust. Start with targeted Google Ads to gain traction, leverage PR and social for broader visibility, and always prioritise exceptional service. Ta da!
“But how should I be using ChatGPT?”
It can be overwhelming when you want to leverage something that everyone’s talking about–but you aren’t quite sure how to do it or where to start.
